Cecily Jackson-Zapata provides legal representation and advice on governance, strategy, policy and advocacy to nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and B Corps. She began her career in the Tax Departments at Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC and Latham & Watkins LLP in Los Angeles and spent over five years as a member of Public Counsel’s Community Development Project. Cecily also developed and led three comprehensive economic development organization capacity building programs that paired organizational assessments with live and highly interactive webinar trainings on a variety of subjects, including strategic planning, financial management, earned-revenue ventures, marketing and communications, and broadband technology. In April 2012 she joined Becki Ueno to form Sustainable Law Group, P.C., a Certified B Corp. Since 2013 B Labs has recognized Sustainable Law Group as a Best for the World Honoree. Cecily also volunteers in a number of leadership positions, including as Secretary of Social Enterprise Alliance, Board Chair of L.A. Kitchen, and Secretary of Phase One Foundation. Cecily received her B.A. in Political Science and Women’s Studies cum laude from the University of Southern California in 1994 and her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1997.
